Spectrafix Pastel Fixative
Inspired by Edgar Degas's antique recipe, SpectraFix Degas Fixative uses a unique blend of casein, water and alcohol to provide safe, odour-free protection for artwork. Perfect for indoor use, especially for those sensitive to chemicals. No toxic fumes, quick-drying, invisible matte finish - ideal for continuous work. Reworkable layering - adds depth and traction, especially on thick media like oil pastels or coloured pencils - forms a durable, water-resistant protective seal.
SpectraFix works on a variety of surfaces, including paper, primed or unprimed canvas, wood, ceramics and more. Can be used on all drawing media including soft pastels, oil pastels, coloured pencil, graphite & charcoal, watercolour, gouache, ink, casein and encaustics. Under oil and acrylics, it prevents smudges and bonds permanently with oil layers, similar to egg tempera - ideal for grisaille or underpainting.
NB: Not recommended as a final top coat for acrylic or oil paints but it can be layered in multimedia pieces then sealed with acrylic or oil varnish.
